Background of the Study:
Open access repositories are instrumental in advancing the dissemination and accessibility of scholarly work by providing free online access to research outputs. At Federal College of Education, Katsina, these repositories are anticipated to enhance research engagement among faculty members. By eliminating subscription barriers, open access repositories facilitate greater interaction with research literature, thereby fostering academic discourse and collaborative initiatives. Faculty members can rapidly access a broad range of studies and data, which is vital for informing research, teaching, and professional development. Nonetheless, the effectiveness of these repositories is contingent upon user engagement, institutional support, and the reliability of the digital platforms. This study assesses how faculty members utilize open access repositories, examines the benefits and limitations of their use, and evaluates the overall impact on research activity and engagement. The inquiry also considers the influence of institutional training programs, digital literacy levels, and infrastructural support in maximizing repository utilization (Garba, 2023).
Statement of the Problem:
Despite the potential benefits of open access repositories, faculty members at Federal College of Education, Katsina experience challenges that limit their research engagement. Issues such as insufficient training, low digital literacy, and sporadic system updates affect repository usage and impede the flow of scholarly communication. These limitations result in underutilization of available resources, adversely impacting research collaboration and output (Garba, 2023).

This study is significant as it explores the role of open access repositories in improving research engagement among faculty at Federal College of Education, Katsina. The findings will guide institutional initiatives to enhance digital literacy, improve repository management, and foster a collaborative research environment, ultimately contributing to elevated academic performance (Garba, 2023).
Scope and limitations of the study:
This study is limited to investigating the impact of open access repositories on faculty research engagement at Federal College of Education, Katsina, with a focus on internal factors rather than external comparisons.
